What Can We Learn From The Lobster?

Our Body and Stress

Fight or Flight: As human beings we confront various situations and a lot of times we must act instantaneously. This requires us to come out of homeostasis to act according to the situation. Our ancestors had to fight due to threat and in the search for food. If we observe a deer or a duck it is easy to see that they recover homeostasis once the danger has passed for example ducks flap their wings ferociously and a deer runs until it feels safe.

Cortisol: the stress hormone in appropriate quantities does nothing wrong, cortisol helps us to live in the world. However, an elevated level of cortisol over a long period of time can cause damage, illness and an imbalance. The body needs to be in homeostasis. If we live by the hormones of stress the body gets used to a new normal which is in fact out of balance. This can cause many problems.

Mapping: our body influences our mind just as our mind influences your body. If we live by the hormones of stress mind and body respond. We generate thoughts equivalent to how we are feeling. And so the vicious circle begins.
